This volume covers standard designations from worldwide standards for cast irons and steels, wrought carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, high strength steels, and tool steels. Entries are provided for more than 30,000 alloy designations. Well over 5000 entries have been updated, and more than 3000 are new additions. In particular, the Fifth Edition features expanded coverage for specifications and designations from Japan, China, India, and South Korea.
This book is one of a new ASM series of 5 volumes. Four of these five title are based on referencing the European Standards (EN) from the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The fifth volume is based on referencing the Materials Standards for Designation.
According to the Subcommittee on ASM Materials, internationally there are over 30,000 alloy designations, with a different listing in the various ASM references. These are intended to be used to replace the more than 30,000 designation systems currently in use across the world. Ultimately, this book would be replaced by the fifth volume of this series.
In order to standardize the designations of shape within an alloy, the various types of the alloy have to be identified. There are more than 2,500 different types of cast and wrought carbon and alloy steels. These are within the following families: d2c66b5586
