It is designed for new customers who are evaluating or implementing a Cadence PCB flow or wanting to build a fully compatible library for use with the OrCAD / Allegro family of PCB design tools. A documented catalog of the OrCAD / Allegro Starter Library contents, as well as sample specifications used in the development of the library is available in Adobe .pdf format.
Install main applicationThe basic idea for running the application is to install it on your localdrive using the Xweb interface. It requires about 750 MB of disk space, Service Pack 1 is also available for installing, after the main applicationhas been installed. Instructions for installing SP1 follow this section. Log on with local system administrator privileges. Begin by going to the Xweb page: xweb.slac.stanford.edu. Find the OrCAD 10.5 entry and click on "Multiple Step Install", to the right. On the following page, click on Step 1 "Install main app" near thebottom of the page.Agree to the license requirements on the next screen. On the following page, click again on Step 1 "Install main app" near thetop of the page. On the next "File Download" page, you can choose either "Run" or "Save".The first choice might be easiest. It will download the installation filesand then automatically proceed to install the application. The "Save" optiononly downloads the installation files. You would then have to go to thelocation where you saved the downloaded files and doubleclick on the *.exefile, which would initiate the install. After the download phase has completed, a "Security Warning" prompts youwhether you want continue and "Run" the (installation program). Click on "Run".The next phase involves unzipping the downloaded files, which takes several minutes, often with no window present to indicate what is happening. On the "License Agreement" screen, click on 'Yes' to agree tothe license terms. On the "Release OrCAD 10.5 Setup" screen, skipping the licensing options, select "Install Products". On the "License Manager Communication" screen, skipping the first option at thetop, fill in the info for the three redundant license servers (which mayalready be the default displayed): License Server # Port Number Host Name 1 27010 sunlics1 2 27010 sunlics2 3 27010 sunlics3 On the following "User Information" screen, enter the customary information. After the following confirmation window, in the next "Control FileLocation" window, Browse to Folder:V:\CAE\OrCAD\10.5and select the "controlfile.txt" there. On the "Select Products" screen, keep at most the three selected components, the ones forwhich we have licenses: Capture and Pspice and Unison PCB (limited availability). You will get problems later if you select Pspice A/D, or Capture CIS.In the same window, Browse to the local Folder where you want the products to be installed. On the "Working Directory" screen, Browse to the local Folder where you plan tostore your working design files. A pop-up window appears asking whether you want to install the newIntelliCAD application. There is no harm in doing so. For the "Select Program Folder" entry, the suggested defaul,"OrCAD 10.5" seems good. After clicking through the following Installation Summary window, the installationproceeds. Near the end of the installation process, several menu prompts appear for dealing with file types that are currently registered to other applications. This is only for being able to double-click on a Pspice-related file and have the right application invoked. It doesn't affectanything internal to Pspice-related executables and how they function. So it should be safe enough to ignore all these prompts, since resetting things may interfere with other applications. You are then prompted whether you want to install the Adobe Acrobat reader. If you (presumably) already have it on your computer, you shouldn't need to install again. The next pop-up message indicates that the installation program is configuring yourenvironment. My experience is that this process takes quite a while, perhaps 2 minutes, but it does eventually end. After completion of the installation, there should then be a Program Folder entry for OrCAD 10.5, which includes Pspice and Capture. You can optionally inspect the environment variables that were set during the installation, or create these variables if they have to be re-created later, for anyreason. You can also reboot immediately or later to makethe installation effective. Now you can proceed to the installation of SP1. Install SP1 Go back to the Xweb entry for OrCAD 10.5 and click again on the 'Multiple Step Install' button to the right, unless you are already in thatenvironment. This time, click on Step 2, 'Install SP1', near the bottomof the next page. Agree to the usual license terms on the following page. On the next page you have once again select "Install SP1", becauseof some quirkiness in the Xweb, it seems". Click on "Run".The next phase involves unzipping the downloaded files, often with no window present to indicate what is happening. The OrCAD installation window then appears for 10.5 SP1, in which youclick on 'Next'.On the next "License Agreement" window, click in the accept box, then Next. Several information windows follow, during the SP1 updating process, followed by the "Update Complete" window, in which you can click on "Finish". This completes the SP1 update installation. No opportunity is given to rename or update the Programs Folder entryfor this app to something like OrCAD 10.5 SP1 - it remains unchanged. Idon't know how to make it apparent that you now have version 10.5 SP1rather than 10.5, except by going in by hand to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Progams folder and renaming the entry manually. License setup Go to area: Start/Settings/Control panel Double-click the Systems Folder and select tab 'environment', or, forWindows XP, 'Advanced', then 'environment'.
