While many fans and critics have dismissed the first part of All Eyez On Me as bloated and self-consciously hip-hop, they're missing the point. This is a Death Row album -- the only label Shakur had ever known -- and he'd been forced to leave his own label.
And, so, for the first time, Shakur could release a record with no outside pressure to cut it more radio-friendly, to worry about how it would impact his street credibility, to worry about what people would think of him (or, more likely, if they would think less of him).
